Our Story
The idea for esc. didn't come from a boardroom; it came from a classroom. As two students sitting side-by-side during a lecture—one with a deep background in mobile app development (Stefan), and the other an FTC Robotics World Champion (Raul)—we realized we shared a common struggle. Between the two of us, we had built complex digital and physical systems, yet we both faced the same deeply human problem: an inability to stay off our phones.
We realized that regardless of our technical disciplines, the endless scroll was quietly eating away at our productivity, our focus, and ultimately, our ability to perform at the highest level. Software blockers weren't enough—they were too easy to bypass. We needed a physical intervention.
So, we combined Stefan's software expertise with Raul's hardware ingenuity and created esc.
The name is a nod to the escape key on a keyboard—a universal symbol for getting out and resetting. But more importantly, it stands for External Screen-Time Controller, a tangible tool designed to help you break the loop and reclaim your time.
